(One to one sessions)
Meditation is an ancient art that exists in many cultures of the world. By learning very simple relaxation techniques to the more advanced, can assist us in getting more out of life, improving our powers of concentration, slowing down the fast pace at which we live, improving the relationship with yourself and others, and much more. Depending on your needs some of the techniques I can share with you are breathing exercises, visualisations, stretch, meditative movement and other powerful meditation techniques. This allows you to gently take back control of your life and stop that sometimes helpless feeling that life is spinning out of control.
Remedial Massage - Kathy Newton
"Massage is a tonic; it invigorates, strengthens and animates the dormant powers and energies." (Dr Stretch Dowse 1887)
Having a massage is the quickest and oldest method of helping to improve your sense of wellbeing. Massage releases tension in the soft tissues which helps to soothe muscle spasm and stimulate the circulation. This in turn assists the immune system and helps vitality.
Remedial massage is an invigorating style of massage using various techniques designed to relax the muscles and relieve tension. It involves long flowing strokes mainly in the direction of the heart to increase circulation and blood flow which in turn helps to improve oxygen flow and remove toxins from the muscle tissues.
It is especially helpful in relieving stiff necks, tense shoulders, and back aches, together with general aches and pains.
What to expect
I will ask you some questions about your general health and then you will undress and lie down on the couch. You will have a full body massage using almond oil unless we decide that it would be more beneficial to concentrate on specific areas of tension.
I am a holistic therapist practising Aromatherapy, Remedial massage, Reflexology and Auricular Ear therapy. I live in New Eltham with my husband and three daughters, and in addition to my therapies I enjoy yoga, cooking, walking and gardening.
I have been practicing as an aromatherapist and holistic masseuse since 1995 when I trained under Tina Freeman attaining distinction in my ITEC qualification. I had previously studied aromatherapy and used it in the home following the birth of my eldest daughter in 1985.Later I went on to study Reflexology under Marion Reynolds and Suzie Bradley and studied for the Association of Reflexology qualification. I later trained in Auricular Ear Therapy with Andrew Scales as all my daughters suffer from ear problems and they find the treatment very soothing.
I have used complementary therapies in my home since the early 1980's to help with sleep problems, ease exam nerves, get rid of the dreaded head lice (which plagues most primary school kids) and numerous other problems. I have also seen the effect it can have in supporting the terminally ill patient.
I am passionate about the healing power of complementary therapies and aim to provide affordable high quality treatments.
Aromatherapy - Kathy Newton
Aromatherapy involves the use of the therapeutic essence of flowers, and plant extracts to help bring about well being and healing. The aromatic oils in flowers, leaves and trees contain the essence of the plant. Aromatherapy harnesses the inherent healing properties in these oils and uses them to bring relief to both body and mind. A trained Aromatherapist is very knowledgeable about the unique properties of a vast range of essential oils and has the skills to apply them to help relieve specific ailments of both the mind and body.
How can it help?
Aromatherapy can help to alleviate stress, release tension and eliminate toxins held in the body which prevent our body from operating at its optimum health. Specific oils can be used to help particular conditions including muscular aches and pains, tension, stress , PMT and many other conditions. It may also be helpful with many of the minor problems of pregnancy - backache, aching legs etc
What to expect
I will start by taking an in depth case history and discussing any problems or conditions that are presenting. You will then undress and lie on the couch covered by towels. A blend of oils will be mixed to help with your symptoms or mood. The oils will be applied to the skin through a body massage. It is a good idea to shower before hand as it is best to leave the oils on the skin for as long as possible so they can be fully absorbed through the skin. The effect will be to alleviate stress, release tension and bring about a state of well being and balance.
Auricular Ear Therapy - Kathy Newton
"Hopi means peaceful people; indeed the name reflects the gentle nature of this treatment"
A gentle, relaxing technique applied to the ear. A traditional healing practice of the North American Hopi Indians it is a non invasive means of improving circulation to the area. As the candles burn they create a vapour infused with therapeutic herbs and essential oils. The tube shape of the candles creates a "chimney effect" when it is lit drawing some excess wax to the exterior of the ear. Gentle heat from the candle stimulates the circulation locally.
What to expect
After taking a medical history and checking your ears you will recline on the couch on your side whilst the lighted candles are gently placed in your ears one side at a time. You will hear crackling and experience a warm sensation in the ear. After the candles have been burnt you will receive a neck, shoulder, face and head massage to enhance the effect of the candles.
It is not advisable to wear too much make up before treatment as the face will be massaged. Most people require between one and three sessions.
Reflexology - Kathy Newton
Reflexology is a gentle non intrusive holistic therapy, whereby pressure is applied to reflex points on either the hands or the feet. The aim is to help improve the flow of "energy" and improve the circulation to assist in the elimination of toxins. Reflexology has been safely used to promote a sense of deep relaxation and well being.
What to expect
You will remove your shoes and socks and recline on a couch supported by pillows. It is
a good idea to wear loose fitting trousers as your legs will be massaged up to your knee. Your feet will be massaged to prepare them for the treatment which is precise pressure applied to the reflex points on the feet. Some of these points may be slightly painful and uncomfortable. I will make notes of areas of sensitivity and imbalance. The session will end with further massage to help stimulate circulation and eliminate toxins.
After the session you may feel very relaxed you should rest, drink plenty of liquid and take it easy.
