Lyndsay Mudford BSc(Hons) Ost.Med.DO – Registered Osteopath
In practice: 25 years
Speciality: Voice and Swallowing Difficulties
I qualified in 2000 with a First Class Honours Degree and a Diploma in Naturopathy at the British College of Osteopathic Medicine, and have worked at The Complementary Health Centre for 24 years.
Prior to that I was a Registered Nurse at the Royal London Hospital.
I was attracted by the holistic approach of osteopathy after being part of the work force in orthodox medicine where patient care is compartmentalised.
I welcome patients of all ages from school-aged children to the elderly.
In addition to those with joint pain – neck, low back, hips and knees being the most common – I see people with digestive problems, pregnant women, post-operative patients following joint surgery, and those who have been hospitalised for a long time and have stiff or weak muscles through inactivity.
I also welcome those with no specific problems, but who experience an all-pervasive feeling of fatigue and physical discomfort due to stress, poor posture, and lack of exercise.
My philosophy is: where there is life there is hope. Unless deemed unsafe, osteopathic treatment can almost always bring an improved sense of wellbeing and increased ease of movement.
This includes chronic conditions such as osteoarthritis and Parkinson’s disease where there is no fundamental cure.
I have never lost the thrill of hearing a patient say how much better they feel, often after just one or two sessions.
Voice and Swallowing Difficulties
I specialise in voice and swallowing problems associated with tight musculature around the larynx and beyond.
Patients include singers, actors, teachers, public speakers, people who have had throat surgery, and those with certain throat pathologies.
Common symptoms include:
- A croaky voice
- Loss of voice
- A ‘lump in the throat’ sensation
- Effortful swallowing
- For singers: pitch breaks, unreliable top notes, and reduced resonance
I was a member of the Voice Clinic Team at Lewisham Hospital for over five years, gaining much insight working alongside ENT surgeons, speech therapists, and a vocal rehabilitation coach.

Outside of work
I love being in the great outdoors, walking and swimming, and I’m rarely happier than when shovelling manure on my allotment or strolling through the woods with my son’s Bernese puppy.
