ABOUT THE BOWEN TECHNIQUE
Named after Thomas Ambrose Bowen who developed the technique in Australia between 1959 & 1982 the Bowen Technique in a very gentle therapy consisting of rolling type moves created by the practitioner’s thumbs and fingers. The moves work on tissues, muscles, tendons and fascia, initiating nerve reflex signals, triggering responses not only at the site of the moves but throughout the whole body.
Moves are applied to areas of the body in specific sequences followed by breaks where the practitioner leaves the room for a few minutes. The breaks give the nervous system a chance to respond with the correct action. Also, while in the process of looking for the proper response, information from the other parts may be gathered by the body. It is therefore common for areas not specifically being targeted by the treatment to respond as well.
Being a holistic treatment (treating the body as a whole) The Bowen Technique initiates a process within the body to return to its optimal point of homeostasis. Encouraging the resetting of abnormal tension patterns and postural imbalances and helping to improve organ function, detoxify and eliminate waste products, and improve lymph drainage.
Conditions which respond well to Bowen include :
Generally 3 treatments are needed between 5 to 10 days apart but it is not uncommon for just one treatment to make a significant difference. However, clients with long-standing problems may need more treatments. Many clients have a monthly treatment for general health maintenance.
Treatments are performed over clothing but due to the gentleness of the moves thick trousers such as jeans or corduroys are not recommended to be worn.
